How to Sell on Flipkart: Step-by-Step Guide for New Sellers

Updated 27 October 2026 · 5 min read · By the LabelCroppers team

Flipkart is one of India's two largest marketplaces, with especially strong reach in fashion, mobiles, electronics and home, and a large audience in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. For fashion sellers, 2026 brought a major change: Flipkart extended zero commission to all fashion products regardless of price.

This guide covers everything from registration to the habits that keep a new Flipkart account growing.

Documents you need

  • GST registration (GSTIN) for most categories.
  • PAN of the business or proprietor.
  • Bank account details with a cancelled cheque.
  • ID and address proof.
  • A dedicated email and mobile number.
  • A pickup address where Flipkart's logistics will collect orders.

Flipkart accepts individuals, proprietorships, partnerships, LLPs and companies. There is no fee to register or list. Only new, genuine products may be sold – second-hand goods are not allowed.

Registering on Flipkart Seller Hub

Sign up at seller.flipkart.com, verify your mobile and email, enter GST and business details, add your bank account, and set your display name. Make sure the business name matches across GST, PAN and bank – mismatches are the most common reason for delays. After verification you can start listing.

Listing your first products

You can list one product at a time or upload in bulk using category templates. If the product already exists in Flipkart's catalog, you can add your offer to it; for your own brand you create new listings and may need brand approval. Every listing needs good images, a clear title, key specifications and accurate attributes – Flipkart uses attributes heavily in filters. Our listing guide goes deeper.

Fulfilment options

  • Seller-fulfilled with Flipkart logistics – you store and pack, Flipkart's courier picks up and delivers. The usual starting point.
  • Fulfilment by Flipkart (FBF) – stock is sent to Flipkart warehouses; Flipkart packs and ships. Products typically get the F-Assured badge and faster delivery.

Compare them in our FBF vs seller-fulfilled guide.

Understand fees before pricing

Flipkart's costs include commission (by category), a fixed fee, collection fee, shipping fee and, if applicable, return charges – with GST on these fees. In July 2026 Flipkart extended its zero-commission policy to all fashion products irrespective of price, after earlier introducing zero commission on products under ₹1,000. Other fees may still apply, so always check the current rate card in Seller Hub. See our Flipkart fees guide.

Your first month on Flipkart

  • Dispatch every order within the promised time.
  • Keep stock accurate – cancellations hurt your seller tier.
  • Start small Flipkart Ads campaigns on your best products.
  • Watch the Growth and Insights sections for demand trends.
  • Print clean 4×6 labels quickly with the Flipkart label crop.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Listing with incomplete attributes so products never appear in filters.
  • Using supplier photos that dozens of other sellers also use.
  • Pricing without including shipping and return costs.
  • Going on leave without using the holiday/vacation setting and collecting cancellations.
  • Ignoring customer return reasons in the first weeks.

What to do next

Once you have steady orders, focus on your seller tier, enrol suitable products in sale events like Big Billion Days, consider FBF for best sellers, and expand catalog with variations of what sells. Our Flipkart growth plan lays out the steps.

Choosing your first products for Flipkart

Flipkart's audience is large and price-aware, with strong demand from smaller cities. Products that do well for new sellers are usually everyday items with steady demand – basics in fashion, home and kitchen essentials, accessories – rather than niche or very high-ticket goods. Search your product idea on Flipkart, sort by popularity, and study the top listings: their price, number of ratings and the complaints in their low-star reviews. A gap you can fill (better fabric, clearer size chart, better pack value) is a reason to enter.

Start with a focused range you can keep in stock across sizes. A small, always-available catalog builds ratings and seller tier faster than a large catalog that keeps cancelling.

Setting up operations before the first order

Decide where stock lives, how it is labelled and who packs. Give every product a clear SKU (for example STYLE-COLOUR-SIZE), store each SKU in its own bin, and keep packing material at the packing table. Do a dry run: print a label, pack a dummy order and time it. If one order takes five minutes now, fifty orders will take over four hours on a busy day – fix the process before demand arrives.

Understanding settlements and taxes

Flipkart pays out after deducting its fees according to the payment cycle shown in Seller Hub. Marketplaces also collect TCS (tax collected at source) under GST and may deduct TDS under income tax rules; these are credited to you but affect cash flow, so reconcile them monthly with your accountant. Keep invoices and settlement reports organised by month from day one.

Free tools for Flipkart sellers

The Flipkart label crop on LabelCroppers crops Flipkart and Ekart labels from the A4 PDF to 4×6, with an optional invoice page after each label, blank-page skipping and auto-rotate. FBF sellers can split consignment box labels with the FBF box label tool. Everything runs in your browser – your orders and customer data are never uploaded.
