Meesho Fees and Shipping Charges Explained: Calculate Your Real Profit

Updated 27 October 2026 · 3 min read · By the LabelCroppers team

"Zero commission" makes Meesho sound free – and compared with other marketplaces it is cheap to sell on. But shipping, returns and RTO are real costs, and on low-priced products they can wipe out the margin if you do not plan for them.

What Meesho deducts

  • Shipping charges – by weight slab and delivery zone, deducted from the settlement.
  • GST on shipping.
  • Return and RTO costs – forward and reverse shipping when an order comes back.
  • Penalties – for policy issues such as wrong or missing items.
  • Ads – only if you run Meesho Ads.

Why weight matters so much

Shipping is charged by weight slab. A product that crosses into the next slab by a few grams can cost noticeably more to ship. Weigh your packed product accurately, choose lighter packaging, and avoid oversized boxes. This is also why sellers optimise product images for the lowest correct shipping charge – see our low shipping image maker.

Calculating profit per order

  • Selling price.
  • Minus shipping charge shown in the panel for that product.
  • Minus product cost, packaging and labels.
  • Minus expected returns cost (return rate × cost per return).
  • Minus ads per order if advertising.

Do this for each product before listing. A ₹299 product with a ₹70 shipping charge and 20% returns behaves very differently from a ₹499 product with the same shipping.

Reducing return costs

Returns cost shipping both ways. Accurate images, size charts and quality packaging reduce them. See reducing Meesho returns and RTO.

Reading settlements

Check payment reports every cycle: shipping charges per order, return deductions and penalties. Raise tickets for incorrect weight charges or wrong deductions.

Worked example

Suppose you sell a kurti at ₹449. The panel shows a shipping charge for its weight slab and your typical delivery zone, plus GST on that charge. If the kurti costs ₹220 and packaging ₹10, and roughly one in five orders comes back with shipping lost both ways, your expected return cost per order is significant. Add these up and you might find the real profit per delivered order is far lower than "₹449 minus cost". Run this calculation for every product before listing – it decides which products are worth selling.

Lowering the shipping charge legitimately

  • Use the lightest packaging that still protects the product.
  • Fold garments compactly; avoid boxes for soft goods.
  • Weigh the packed product accurately and keep it consistent.
  • Prefer products with high value per gram.

Penalties to avoid

Meesho can apply penalties for issues such as wrong or missing items found during claims. Packing videos, SKU-labelled bins and checking every label against the product are the best protection.

Building a simple profit sheet

Create one row per product with columns for selling price, shipping charge from the panel, GST on shipping, product cost, packaging, expected return rate, cost per return, ad cost per order and final profit. Use formulas so that changing one input updates the profit. Sort by profit per order: products at the bottom need a price change, lighter packaging, fewer returns – or removal. Review the sheet monthly, because shipping slabs, costs and return rates change.

Checklist

  • Packed weight measured per product
  • Shipping charge noted from panel
  • Profit sheet with returns allowance
  • Settlements checked each cycle
