Amazon Account Health: Metrics to Watch and How to Avoid Suspension

Updated 27 October 2026 · 3 min read · By the LabelCroppers team

An Amazon account is a business asset, and account health is its credit score. When metrics slip, listings can be suppressed and, in serious cases, selling privileges removed. Most problems are preventable with simple daily habits.

Customer service metrics

  • Order defect rate (ODR) – negative feedback, A-to-z claims and chargebacks as a share of orders.
  • Pre-fulfilment cancellation rate – orders you cancel, usually because of stock problems.
  • Late dispatch rate – orders dispatched after the promised date.
  • Valid tracking rate – relevant for Self Ship.

Amazon publishes target thresholds in Seller Central. Treat them as maximums, not goals – healthy accounts stay far below them.

Policy compliance

Intellectual property complaints, restricted products, listing policy violations and review manipulation all appear in the Account Health dashboard. Respond to every notice quickly, with evidence such as invoices from authorised suppliers or brand authorisation letters.

Prevent cancellations

  • Keep inventory in sync every day – especially if you sell the same stock on several marketplaces.
  • Keep a safety buffer and set stock slightly lower than physical stock for fast movers.
  • Use realistic handling times for made-to-order items.

Prevent late dispatch

Set a daily dispatch cut-off and a fixed packing routine. Print all labels in one go at a set time. With cropped 4×6 labels and an SKU picklist, a small team can pack hundreds of orders before the courier arrives.

If you receive a warning or deactivation

Read the notice carefully, identify the root cause, and submit a Plan of Action: what happened, why it happened, what you changed to fix it and what you will do to prevent it. Be specific and factual. Many sellers lose time with generic appeals.

A daily 10-minute health routine

  • Open the Account Health dashboard and Performance Notifications.
  • Check pending orders and any that are close to their dispatch deadline.
  • Reply to buyer messages (Amazon expects replies within 24 hours).
  • Look at stock levels for fast movers and reduce quantities if you are close to running out.
  • Check A-to-z claims and respond with tracking and evidence.

Keeping documents ready

Authenticity and IP complaints are resolved with paperwork. Keep supplier invoices with your GSTIN, brand authorisation letters, trademark documents, and product certifications (for example BIS for toys) in an organised folder. When a complaint arrives, you can respond the same day.

Writing a strong Plan of Action

  • Root cause: the specific reason, not a general statement.
  • Immediate actions: what you already fixed (refunds, removed listings, corrected stock).
  • Preventive measures: process changes – stock sync tool, double-check at packing, supplier change, staff training.
  • Keep it concise and factual, with bullet points and evidence attached.

Protecting the account long-term

Use a dedicated business email with two-factor authentication, give staff their own user permissions rather than sharing the main login, and avoid linking your account to unknown third-party apps.

Checklist

  • Account Health page checked daily
  • Inventory synced across channels
  • Daily dispatch cut-off
  • Supplier invoices stored for every product
  • Notices answered within 48 hours
