Amazon Pricing Strategy: How to Price for Profit and Still Sell

Updated 27 October 2026 · 3 min read · By the LabelCroppers team

Price is the lever sellers pull most often – and the one that most often destroys profit. A good Amazon pricing strategy starts with knowing your floor price, then uses smart tactics above it.

Know your floor price

Your floor is the price where profit is zero after product cost, packaging, Amazon fees, shipping, GST, expected returns and a target advertising cost. Calculate it for every SKU and never go below it except for deliberate clearance.

Use price bands

Amazon's fees and shoppers' psychology both change at round numbers. In 2026, products under ₹1,000 pay no referral fee in more than 1,800 categories – pricing at ₹999 instead of ₹1,049 may both increase conversion and lower your fees.

Bundles and packs

Packs of 2 or 3 raise the order value and spread shipping and fixed fees over more units. Amazon's 2026 changes also reduce fees on extra units shipped together. For basics like innerwear, socks or kids' t-shirts, packs are often more profitable than singles.

Coupons, deals and price drops

Coupons show a green badge in search and can lift click-through. Deals give visibility during events. Plan these as a marketing cost with a clear budget, and measure the extra units they bring.

Avoid price wars

If a competitor undercuts you, compare more than price: reviews, images, delivery speed. Often the better response is a better listing or a bundle, not a lower price.

Psychological pricing that works in India

Prices ending in 9 (₹499, ₹799, ₹999) are standard and expected. Show value with pack sizes ("Pack of 3 at ₹749 – ₹250 each"). For premium products, round prices can signal quality. Test what works in your category rather than assuming.

Pricing a new launch

A new product with no reviews competes against products with many. A launch price slightly below your long-term price, or a coupon, helps win first orders and reviews. Plan the step back up to your normal price in advance so it is gradual.

When to raise prices

If a product sells out regularly, has strong reviews and a stable rank, test a small price increase. Watch conversion and units for two weeks. Many sellers leave money on the table by never testing higher prices on their best products.

Profit by channel

Fees differ between Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Myntra and others. A single price for every channel is rarely optimal. Calculate each channel's floor separately while keeping prices close enough that no channel looks overpriced.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use automated repricing?

Repricers can help on shared listings, but always set a minimum price above your floor.

Do coupons hurt margins?

They cost money, so treat them as marketing. Use them where they raise conversion enough to be worth it.
